History

Opened in 1923 as Bayshore Golf Course, designed by Willie Park and Lee Nelson as part of developer Carl Fisher’s Alton Beach subdivision.

During WWII the U.S. Army rented the course for $1/year as a training ground. In 1944 the City of Miami Beach condemned and bought the land to block a competing housing development, preserving it as a golf course. The clubhouse was rebuilt in 1954.

At age 79, the course underwent a $10 million renovation in 2002 by Arthur Hills and Steve Forrest — new turf, redesigned lakes, rebuilt bunkers, new irrigation, and a new clubhouse — reopening under its current name.

Since 2011 it has hosted the South Beach International Amateur, drawing competitors from more than 28 countries.
